Are you tired of all the smoothie recipes? This is the only recipe for protein smoothie bowls you will ever need.

There are many smoothie recipes on the internet, but they’re not all that great. Rachelle Robinett, herbalist and health expert, is the person I’d most like to consult for the perfect smoothie concoction. She is an expert in optimizing nutrition profiles of any food, beverage or snack. And she makes it taste great. She shares her smoothie recipe in the latest episode of Well+Good’s YouTube series Plant Based.

She says, “This is by far my favorite recipe.” It’s my favorite recipe because it is a template that allows you to create amazing smoothies for as long as you like without having to make the same smoothie repeatedly.

She begins with the basics, fruits and vegetables. She then adds a source of fiber such as acacia fibre, chia, flax or hemp seeds. She also adds a plant-based powdered protein, which is reassuring to those who are worried they don’t get enough of this macronutrient. She explains that we need less protein than what we think. The general consensus is that we need about 12 percent of total calories from protein.

She says that this number is helpful for assessing what you have on your plate or in your blender, since you can strive to get a little under a quarter of the spread from protein, whether it’s animal products, plant-based foods, or a mixture of both. She says that “we eat protein to get amino acid, and we can obtain amino acids from the food we eat.”

Robinett says that smoothies can be a great meal on-the-go, but she recommends using a spoon instead of a straw to aid digestion. She says that eating a smoothie using a spoon makes it less surprising than dumping a large smoothie into your stomach and telling the digestive enzymes to handle it.
