Constipation is a common problem. Why an RD believes in the same remedy as your grandmother?

Constipation is not fun for anyone who has experienced it. Constipation has no benefits, other than the fact that you can use less toilet paper. You have to laugh in order not to cry, right? If you are constipated you will want to poop as soon as possible. There are some foods that help.

How can you tell whether you are actually constipated or not? In our latest episode, Tracy Lockwood Beckerman RD, a registered dietitian, breaks down the constipation symptoms. She says that constipation is having less than three bowel movement per week and they are usually hard, dry and small. She says that people can also suffer from other side effects like nausea, stomach pressure, cramping and abdominal pain. Constipation can be caused by many things, including dehydration and not eating enough fibre. Other causes include stress, travel, changing routines, and changes in routine. Traveling is not a likely cause of constipation for most people, at least in the short term.

You can do a lot to help. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to help is by eating prunes like an 80-year-old.

Beckerman explains that the oldest trick is to eat prunes whenever you need help with your bathroom. (Tell Grandma: prunes do help constipation.) This is due to the high amount of fiber in prunes. It is a classic because it works.

Are you not a fan of prunes? You can also eat other foods that will help you with constipation. To learn more, watch the video.

Do you cry when your poop hurts, even if it doesn’t? It’s a real scientific explanation. Your hormones are responsible for the intense period poop.
